After he spent his childhood at the Baltic Sea, Holger Bodendorf completed his culinary training with distinction and then went on to hone his skills. After a first intermezzo at LANDHAUS STRICKER he worked at the renowned Landhaus Scherrer, the Hotel Atlantic in Hamburg, the legendary two-starred restaurant Petermann´s Kunststuben in Zurich and with Wolfgang Staudenmaier, also distinguished with two stars, at Da Gianni in Mannheim.
In 1992 he returned to Sylt. To Germany’s most beautiful island and fell immediately in love with it. The vicinity of the sea had always fascinated him. Holger Bodendorf started to work as a chef in Tappe´s Restaurant.
In 1996 he joined the Restaurant Veneto in the Hotel Windrose in Wenningstedt and obtained his first Michelin star there in 2000.
In 2001 he went to LANDHAUS STRICKER. Since then Holger and Kerstin Bodendorf have been running the 5-star property with the two restaurants SIEBZEHN84 and BODENDORF'S.
2003 - a Michelin star is now shining over the BODENDORF´S. Without interruption until today, 15 years in a row.
Other distinctions such as 18 Gault Millau points (out of 20), 4 stars in the Varta Guide, good rankings in Der Feinschmecker, in the Großer Hotel & Restaurantguide or in Gusto followed. Since 2003 the restaurant BODENDORF'S has held the “Best Award of Excellence" of the Wine Spectator. Last but not least, the “Chef of the Year 2018” secured a positioning amongst the best German chefs in the Schlemmer Atlas.
Holger Bodendorf: "The guest must be surprised and above all thrilled by the taste.” When talking to the chef, you literally feel the fun “HB” (as his team affectionately refers to him) has in his work. …the duel between Tim Mälzer and Holger Bodendorf on “Kitchen Impossible” takes them to their absolute limits.
Whilst Holger Bodendorf sent Tim Mälzer to Norway and Dubai, Holger Bodendorf was sent by Tim Mälzer to Croatia and England; Holger Bodendorf had to deal with a recalcitrant dough in the Croatian capital and then had to bother with a grill in London.
During the final scoring there were several surprises and Holger Bodendorf lost to Tim Mälzer with a difference of merely 0.8 points.

During the ZDF cooking show “Koch im Ohr” (Cook in the Ear) Holger Bodendorf appeared twice between October 2016 and March 2017. In this show two absolute cooking lay people were guided via a button in the ear by two starred chefs. Following their instructions, the candidates had to prepare dishes.
The special difficulty here: the otherwise used senses of the master chefs are useless… they can neither smell nor feel or taste or cut themselves…
At the end the final dishes are then rated by an expert, in a similar way as in the “Küchenschlacht” (Kitchen Battle).
During the two appearances of Holger Bodendorf he won the duel – against Stefan Marquardt first and then against Sybille Schönberger.
The starred chefs first acted together as a jury: they rated the dish, without knowing who prepared it.
In the TV show Game of Chefs Holger Bodendorf was looking for new talents from the professional and amateur field.
Who creates a perfect dish and convinces with taste and creativity on the plate?
Based on his own cooking and life philosophy each chef then put together his team.
As mentors Christian Lohse, Christian Jürgens and Holger Bodendorf led and qualified their team, with a close orientation on the routines of a genuine professional kitchen.
The three teams contested against each other and had to convince in a large number of different culinary competitions a changing jury consisting of experts and gourmets. In each round a participant had to leave… and Veronika 'Vroni' Lutz from “Team Red” of Holger Bodendorf made it to the final and ranked third at the end of the show.
Alexander Hoppe won the “Game of Chefs” and can now start with the prize of EUR 100,000.00 his dream of an own starred restaurant.
The fact that gourmets can enjoy wonderful culinary delights on Sylt is no longer a secret. And this also applies to the Gourmet Festival Sylt which is no longer a secret tip but an event for which many fans and friends of the island come on purpose. No wonder – many exciting and delicious events are offered, together with the opportunity to experience delicacies from all over the world!
“We want to see a sparkle in the eyes of our guests,” is the credo of the Festival organisers who have great fun in sharing their own pleasure for culinary delights with others. Hospitality is a matter very close to the hearts of the full blooded, passionate chefs and hosts.
